Terms of Use
Last updated October 12, 2026
Kosk is a free tool that locks and unlocks your files on your own Mac. By downloading or using Kosk, you agree to these terms.
What Kosk does
Kosk adds a Lock with Kosk option to the Finder menu. It encrypts a file on your Mac, using a key kept in your Keychain, and decrypts it again when you confirm with Touch ID.
Your files are your responsibility
- Kosk works entirely on your device. We can't see your files, your keys or your recovery phrase, so we can't recover them for you.
- If you lose access to your Keychain and your 24-word recovery phrase, locked files can't be opened by anyone.
- Keep a backup of anything important before you lock it, and store your recovery phrase somewhere safe and private.
- If you set a password for a file, we can't reset it. Keep it somewhere safe.
Using Kosk fairly
Use Kosk lawfully and respect other people's rights. Rules about encryption software differ between countries, and you are responsible for following the ones that apply to you.
Open source
Kosk's source code is available on GitHub. The license in that repository governs how you may copy, change and share the code.
No warranty
Kosk is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. We don't promise it will be error-free or always available. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost data or any other damage that results from using Kosk.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use Kosk means you accept the update.
